Production
The idea for the film started in 2010, when producer Mark Joseph wanted to make a biopic about Ronald Reagan. The screenplay was written by Klausner and McCord, who were inspired by Reagan's early life and political career. The script is based on Kengor's book and aims to stay true to history.
Filming began on September 9, 2020, in Guthrie, Oklahoma. However, production was paused on October 22, 2020, due to some crew members testing positive for COVID-19. Filming resumed on November 5, 2020.
Music
The film features covers of classic songs by famous musicians. Bob Dylan sings "Don't Fence Me In" over the end credits, Gene Simmons covers "Stormy Weather," and Clint Black sings "Take Me Home, Country Roads." The original score was composed by John Coda.
Release
Reagan was initially scheduled for release in 2021 but was delayed. In March 2024, it was announced that the movie would be released in theaters on August 30, 2024, by ShowBiz Direct. Facebook temporarily restricted the film’s advertisements, claiming they were trying to influence the 2024 U.S. elections.
