Little Miss Rawther is a 2023 Malayalam-language film from India. It is a musical romantic drama directed by Vishnu Dev, who made his directorial debut with this movie. Premise

Naina Rawther is a modern, independent young woman from an upper-middle-class Muslim family. Her family is traditional, with a strict father and a dramatic mother. Naina struggles with OCD. Meanwhile, Abhijit, her college boyfriend, is facing difficulties in his failing film career. When he learns that Naina is getting married, he gets drunk with his college friend Arun Kaliyikka. On the eve of her wedding, Naina, who is unsure about marrying Shafeek, calls Abhijit for advice. After their conversation, Naina decides not to marry Shafeek and runs away with Abhijit.

Production

The title of the film was officially announced on 7 October 2022, and the first-look poster was released on 12 October 2022. The film was co-produced by Srujan Yarabolu and Sadhik Sheikh under the banner of S Originals. Shersha Sherief, who previously acted in "Nizhal" (2021) and "Hridayam" (2022), made his debut as a lead actor and writer. Vishnu Dev also made his directorial debut with this film.

Filming

Principal photography began on 26 October 2022, with the shooting completed on 2 March 2023. The shoot lasted 37 days, spread across three different schedules, with major scenes shot in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi. Post-production started in April 2023.

Music

Govind Vasantha composed the film's original background score and songs. The song "Chikki Chikki," sung by Benny Dayal, was released on 12 May 2023. The second song, "Ra Ra Rajasika," was sung by Sithara. The music rights were acquired by Wonderwall Media Network.

Release

The film received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification. Initially scheduled for release on 6 October 2023, the film was later released on 13 October 2023. The official trailer was unveiled by well-known actors Dulquer Salmaan, Manju Warrier, and Vineeth Sreenivasan. Director Vishnu Dev and lead actress Gouri G. Kishan also announced the release date through their social media.

Critical Response

Sruthi Ganapathy Raman of Film Companion noted that "Vishnu Dev's Little Miss Rawther introduces its characters in a sharp, distinctive manner. The film explores the idea of opposites attracting." Arunima Krishnan of Malayala Manorama praised the film's music, stating that "the beautiful songs and visual appeal will surely captivate young audiences." However, Hari P N from Koimoi gave the film a score of 1.5 out of 5 stars, describing it as a "stoner comedy-drama that deviates from traditional storytelling norms." He added that the film effectively uses flashbacks and film footage to capture the essence of the characters' relationship.
